It’s all systems go for Richard as he prepares his top three day event horse Alfies Clover for the Land Rover Burghley 5* horse trials, 5-8 September. Richard and Alfies Clover had been long listed for this year’s European Championships in Germany to be held at the end of August, so he was waiting for the final team of six riders to be announced last week. As reserve, he and Alfies Clover are free to bag their ticket to Burghley.
The duo are certainly hoping that it is third time lucky after their successful debut in 2017 and their top 10 place last year. The big international event is one of only two 5* horse trials to be held in the UK which sets a serious level of difficulty for horse and rider. Richard and Alfie have been working hard at the dressage basics and have been growing in confidence under the careful eye of wife and top dressage rider Victoria – see them below enjoying a row of three time changes:
The pair have performed well this year so all the groundwork is in place.
